Day #2 of 30 Days to Breakthrough – Slowing down

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Welcome to Day #2 of your “30 Days To Breakthrough” journey.

Yesterday, we began addressing the issue of Stewarding Your TIME. We learned the importance of Redeeming The Time, what that means, why it’s so important, and some simple ways to do that.

If you missed that lesson, please go back and catch up. Do it NOW!

Here is your daily quote, lesson, question, link, and prayer.

QUOTE
The unexamined life is not worth living! — Socrates

LESSON
In his book “The Life You’ve Always Wanted,” John Ortberg teaches spiritual disciplines for ordinary people.

In Chapter 5 titled “An Unhurried Life,” John explains “the practice of ’slowing’.” He states that not long after moving to Chicago, he called the wisest spiritual mentor he has ever known to ask for spiritual direction. John described the pace at which things tended to move in his current setting. He told about the rhythms of his family life and the present condition of his heart. Then John asked what he needed to do to be spiritually healthy. After a long pause, the wise mentor answered “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.” After writing down that lesson, John asked “Now what else is there?” Another long pause and then the answer came “There is nothing else.”

John states: “The lives of the hurry-sick lack simplicity. Hurried people cannot love. Today we have largely traded wisdom for information. Love and hurry are incompatible. Jesus never hurried. Solitude is the remedy for the busyness that charms.”

To be spiritually healthy, you must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life!

And journaling is one of the best disciplines to slow down your RPM’s from 10,000 to 5,000 to 500.

QUESTION    (write down your what comes to your heart)
Lord, what one simple action step can I take to slow down the pace of my life.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, I praise as the great I AM, the God who wants me to be still to know You. I confess that the pace of my life is too fast. It seems the harder I work, the further behind I get. Will You help me to slow down to smell the roses. I need your help. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Blessings to use journaling to slow down and reflect!

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Welcome to Day #1 of your “30 Days To Breakthrough” journey. When you change your thinking, you change your life.

For the next 7 days, we’ll be addressing the issue of Stewarding Your TIME. Today’s topic is “Redeeming The Time.”

Here is a summary of what we will cover this week:

Day 1 – Redeeming The Time
Day 2 – Slowing down
Day 3 – The importance of HABITS
Day 4 – PRIORITIES
Day 5 – Clear written GOALS
Day 6 – Benefits of keeping a journal
Day 7 – Leaving a rich legacy through journaling

30 Days To Breakthrough

Before we get started with today’s lesson, let me ask you:

Did you write the following on 3 little pieces of paper or sticky-notes and post those in prominent places you see frequently?

“Starting _____________ (date), I commit to journal every day for the next 30 days to become a better steward with my Time, Talent, Treasure, and Temple (body).”

If not, do it right now. This step is critical. Don’t skip it.

OK, here are today’s quote, lesson, question, link, and prayer.

On January 21, 2010, I had the privilege of hosting a webinar with Rick Grubbs, founder of Life-Changing Seminars and Redeeming The Time radio. It was by far the best presentation TIME I have ever heard. To view that video, see today’s Link of the Day.

What does it mean to redeem the time?
a) Redeem = “to rescue from going to waste”
b) Time = “the passing of life”

Why is it so important to redeem YOUR time?
a) Time is limited
b) Death is certain
c) Our use of time brings ETERNAL consequences
d) Time is not recoverable
e) Time is our most valuable earthly possession
f) We must given an account of how we spend our time

What are ways to redeem YOUR time?
a) Learn how to wake up and get up
b) Get organized
c) Identify and eliminate time wasters
d) Conquer procrastination

Here are two guiding questions to redeem your time
a) What will be the fruit of this activity in 5 years?
b) What will be the fruit of this activity in eternity?

The real key to redeeming the time is to constantly ask myself “What does God want me to do RIGHT NOW?

QUESTION (write down what comes to your heart)
Lord, what time wasters can I start eliminating today to redeem my time?

6 Advantages of Teams

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Source: 6 Advantages of Teams

A team is a group of people doing something together to produce a specific result or outcome. None of us, no matter how good we are can be great at everything. So what are 6 key advantages of teams?

Advantage 1: Increases productivity
Organizations are continuously looking for efficiency or productivity gains as a source of competitive advantage. Teams, especially those that are close to the point of delivery can identify what needs to change to boost productivity better than any group of senior managers could ever hope to. Let the team focus on productivity and the organisation gains.

Advantage 2: Improves communication skills
For teams to succeed they need to be able to get their messages across, listen effectively to other points of view and build on ideas. As a result of being on the team, people are getting the opportunity to develop and improve their communication skills.

Advantage 3: Diversity of skills
Some people in organisations thrive in dealing with the big picture stuff. Others get their kick from getting immersed in the detail. There will be others who thrive on idea generation and others who love to take something from concept to finished article. This diverse range of people skills and working together have the potential to deliver a much better solution than any one individual could ever hope to do.

Advantage 4: Improved problem solving
Think about a time when you had a problem that you needed to solve. You probably get so far and then end up getting stuck because of your own range of experience or knowledge. When you have access to the wider range of skills and knowledge you ultimately solve problems faster and better.

Advantage 5: Process improvement
Few business processes operate in isolation just within one area of the organisation. They tend to cross functions and even geographical boundaries. A team with insights of different parts of the process will clearly be better placed to make successful process improvements.

Advantage 6: Smarter use of resources
When a team has focus on getting a specific result, chances are they will find creative ways of using the resources at their disposal rather than focusing on the constraints.

Bottom Line – There are numerous advantages of teams. What else would you add to the list of advantages.

Reclaim 7 Mountains of Culture

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

The Great Commission is a TEACHING as well as PREACHING commission!

Mt 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NAS) Teach them all I commanded you.

Did you know that Jesus gave us 50 commandments to take to the nations?

The 50 commandments of Christ will change a nation. Notice how Jesus commands us to both preach repentance and TEACH THEM TO “OBSERVE ALL THINGS THAT I COMMANDED YOU”. We tend to focus on getting people saved, or born again. That is certainly the start. This however is called the “Gospel of Salvation.”

The “Gospel of the Kingdom” on the other hand is the Gospel we are called to preach. It includes the call to repentance but goes much further. It 7 Mountains of Culture reaches into the world system and threatens Satan’s control over the nations. It is a teaching commission along side a preaching commission. It has been neglected too long.

To disciple a nation you need a philosophy that governs all aspects of behavior yet is flexible enough to apply to all sectors of society. What are the sectors of society the gospel must penetrate in order to disciple nations?

There are in fact seven mountains or world kingdoms that make up the matrix in which the culture of every nation exists. These mountains are also called “mind molders”, because the person who controls the tops of these mountains has leverage over the minds and lives of those beneath in every other mountain. The church has a message for each of these mountains. We need to both demonstrate the power of God and recover our confidence in the practical, life changing dynamic that is unleashed when society is built on non optional universal life principles- the commandments of Christ! It is the absence of this moral foundation that explains why it is easier to liberate a country from dictatorship than it is to bring it into order and prosperity once the dictator is out of power.
